There are different devices that are used for seismic isolation along with some supplementary devices to produce the best result but the two most commonly used devices are Friction Pendulum Bearing System and Elastomeric Bearing System. Such systems when used reduces the dangers caused by earthquake to a building and you can see that more and more modern buildings use such devices for better protection and durability of the property. However, use of such mechanism can be found in ancient history where natural element like sand was poured between the ground and the walls to produce the sliding mechanism and prevent the building from collapsing.
The Elastomeric Bearings:
This is one of the most commonly used Seismic Isolators to isolate the vibrating machines to protect the foundation of the building by preventing the flow of the vibration energy from the machines.

| Building Seismic Isolators |
Initially, rubber isolation system was used for this purpose but with the development in technology you can now have two types of Elastomeric Bearings namely, Natural and Synthetic Rubber Bearings and the Lead Rubber Bearings. These systems helps in decoupling the building from the horizontal components of the earthquake ground motions which is done by interposing a layer having very low horizontal stiffness between the foundation and the structure.
Friction Pendulum Bearing:
In this method a sliding mechanism is produced between the bearing walls and the ground. Previously sand was used but in the modern systems stainless steel and Teflon is used depending on the surface geometry and sliding effects.

You get Flat and Curved Slider Bearings both of which acts on the horizontal forces. Apart from that there are several Acoustic Products that are also used to minimize vibration.
